In the first blog about SAP Business One Training I differentiated it from SAP R3 in brief with regards to the technical aspects. Further the answer is again dependent on two areas of consideration namely; 1) Relevance, and 2) Cost.
1. You should asses both trainings which has more relevance to your current domain of operation i.e. your current working areas and experience. By definition, training is a form of education, it is designed to bridge the knowledge and skills gap of a person and therefore it must serve said purpose. In choosing the best SAP training course then, you must know how wide the difference between your theoretical and practical know-how is.
When you have already pegged your baselines you then proceed to determine if the topics that will be covered by the training will be able to satisfy the disparity. This can be done by getting the course curriculum and researching for the specific topics that will be tackled by the course.
SAP R3 Training offers specific courses per module, so choose the module that is most significant to you. In taking up SAP R3 it is very helpful if you are already a user and somewhat familiar in navigating through it. People who are in need of this training are usually those who have undergone user training in their current jobs, became key implementers and now would like to further their knowledge by being solutions consultants.
SAP B1 however, is of a broad-spectrum approach encompassing Logistics, Finance and the technical aspects especially on customizing reports and user-defined fields and queries. Unlike SAP R3 however, SAB B1 is simpler to use and quite manageable to configure. Most accountants, persons with finance, logistics, and supply chain background or ERP implementers take up this training course because it is a compact yet powerful business solution.
The training that is suitable for you should be the one that answers all if not most of your requirements.
2. Cost of the training, like it or not this is a big factor. You need to search for authorized SAP training providers that can deliver the course that is suited for you at the cost that is within your budget. Usually the SAP in your respective country conducts training for Business Partners and the Business Partners are the ones who are authorized to provide training to private individuals. In either case you must be sure that the Training Provider is an authorized SAP Education Partner .
SAP R3 Training is more expensive than SAP B1. This is because SAP R3 is more complicated and requires more number of contact training hours. The longer the contact training hours the greater the cost to run the class and thus the amount of training fee follows. This fact however, should not deter you from taking the training if it is more appropriate for you.
SAP B1 training costs lower as it is straight forward and requires shorter contact training hours but it does not mean that you will learn less. More topics are covered as the course curriculum is driven by the business process and not per module. The SAP B1 training courses are also role specific and therefore the length of the training and the modules that you need to undertake depends on what you want to become after the training.
To sum it all up, it is not fitting to compare SAP R3 and SAP B1 training because each has its own merits. And said merits are very relative on the individual making the assessment. Know first your purpose so that you will be able to determine the significance of the training then add in the cost factor. Choose the training course which fits best with your requirements.
